Retired Elder DeLancey Dies
Bob DeLancey, retired RMC clergy, died today. He has been at Wheat Ridge Manor. The service is not yet scheduled. Expressions of care may be sent to his spouse Elizabeth at 9425 W Dakota Ave, Lakewood, CO 80226. Bob was ordained elder in the Colorado Conference in 1950 and served Hugy-Boyero, Salt Lake City Centenary, Rawlins, Denver Cameron, Ogden First, Denver Highlands, LaJunta, Castle Rock, Denver Phillips and Denver Warren.
Peaks Sub-district Lay Leadership Training Class Scheduled March 1, 2
Rev. Dr. David Dalke will facilitate a lay leadership training class, "Leading Small Groups" on Saturday, March 1, and Sunday afternoon, March 2, at First UMC, Ft Collins. The class will assist present and future leaders to better understand their role and the power their leadership can have in the success of the group. A retired UM clergy now serving part time on the staff at FUMC, Ft Collins, Dr. Dalke is in private practice as an individual and family counselor, and is a consultant and trainer to churches and businesses in the private and public sectors. His speaking and training experience includes team building/trust/leadership development, positive communication skills, conflict resolution, improving work relationships and managing priorities. Fee for the class is $30.00, which includes Saturday lunch, textbooks and other take-home materials. The class is an advanced lay speaking course, and is open to all laity. Here is some UM Volunteers in Mission News for your Sunday bulletin:
1) Some churches have expressed interest in sending teams to help other churches with their Vacation Bible Schools. If you would like a group to help you with your VBS this summer (that's a neat thing!), please contact Ann Fort, annfort8269 at comcast.net and we'll get the word out!
2) Volunteers Needed! The St. Luke's UMC Surgical Team to Guatemala August 29-September 7, 2008 still needs the following personnel:
- General surgeon
- Plastic surgeon
- Pharmacist
- Scrub tech

3) You are invited to join a mission trip to Cunen, GUATEMALA, August 2-10, 2008. Volunteers are needed for construction (no skills required) as well as doctors, nurses and music people. Contact Liz Foster, Heritage UMC, Denver, liz.foster at umheritage.com
4) GUATEMALA - Mary Micikas, United Methodist Individual Volunteer, has some wonderful opportunities in Guatemala! Construction teams are needed in San Juan La Laguna, Guatemala. Also, YOUTH and YOUNG ADULTS are invited to come and work with the youth around Lake Atitlan as part of a CULTURAL EXCHANGE. 5) There are two teams from Louisiana going to Alaska that are inviting additional volunteers:
Kenai, Alaska - June 14-21, June 21-28, 2008. The teams will paint New Covenant UMC, both interior and exterior. Room for 4-5 more volunteers.

7) Please keep letting us know about your mission trips and if you need UMVIM team leader training! Be sure to take out the GBGM accident insurance.
8) Here's a reminder of some of the other teams we've recently advertised:
*Uruguay, June 12-June 21. Repair the oldest United Methodist Church in Uruguay and teach quilt finishing techniques. Optional trip to Machu
Picchu in Peru. Registration deadline is the second week of February! Fundraising dinner will be held on Tuesday, March 4 at 6:30 pm at

*Nicaragua, July 30 - August 8. Work side by side with local families in the construction of a water or sanitation project. Neither Spanish nor construction skills required. Who Should Attend?
* Certified Candidates seeking to become eligible for appointment as local pastors in the United Methodist Church.
* Applications will also be accepted from individuals who have not achieved certified candidacy status. All applicants must have acquired at least "Exploring Candidacy" status.
* Graduates are not guaranteed appointments, nor are they required to seek appointment.

* Christy Boyle is Director of Children's Ministry at St. Andrew UMC in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. She is trained in early childhood education, and has taught elementary school as well.
* Brenda Lear is Registrar and Dean of the Licensing School and is currently serving as District Superintendent of the Sunshine District of the Rocky Mountain Conference.
* Olon Lindemood has served churches in the Rocky Mountain Conference since 1983 and is currently serving as District Superintendent of the Mile High/Pikes Peak District of the Rocky Mountain Conference.
* Linda Marshall is Minister of Congregational Care at Trinity UMC in Denver, Colorado. She formerly served churches in the Yellowstone Conference.
* Dave McConnell is Pastor of Bozeman UMC in Bozeman, Montana. He has served churches in the Yellowstone Conference since 1978.
* Nancy Mead has served churches in Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, and Montana for more than 20 years. She is currently pastor of Phillips UMC in Lakewood, Colorado.
* Trevor Potter is the pastor of Wiley and McClave UMCs on the plains of Colorado. He has served in the Rocky Mountain Conference since 1999.
* Eric Smith was ordained in the Rocky Mountain Conference in 1987 and is currently serving as District Superintendent of the Peaks and Plains District in the Rocky Mountain Conference.
