"Biblical Preaching:  A Word for Our Day"
led by Rev. Russ Brown

This workshop was offered two years ago by the Board of Discipleship and there have been requests to offer it again.  It is open to anyone interested in improving preaching skills--elders, deacons, local pastors, and lay speakers.
 
Reverend Russ Brown is a retired elder in the Rocky Mountain Conference.  He served for many years in this Conference and then moved to South Carolina where he served an additional twelve years.  He has moved back to our area.  Russ has always been known as a gifted preacher who begins from a biblical foundation and then delivers messages that challenge and inspire those in his congregation.

Bridge of Love Offering News
We continue the special way of funding programs and ministry in Angola through the BRIDGE OF LOVE offering. Churches and delegates to Annual Conference are encouraged to collect coins at worship and other special meetings of the local church. Bring the money to Annual Conference and deposit in the large kettle at the designated time. In the past the money from the BRIDGE OF LOVE has been used for various projects. The last three offerings were given for water projects. This year the money will go to support the ministry for and to children in both the East and West Annual Conferences of the United Methodist Church. The focus in the East Conference is to support the Quessua Mission Boarding School. Funds are needed to purchase food since the gardens have not started to produce. More information and news about the BRIDGE OF LOVE will be sent from time to time as we approach Annual Conference in June. Look for the letter to be sent soon giving more details.

Pathway to Retirement Seminar Announced
The Conference Board of Pensions and Health Benefits has scheduled a "Pathway to Retirement" Seminar for September 25-26, 2008.   It will be held in the Denver area.   This is more than just a pre-retirement seminar.  It will be open to all clergy and lay enrolled in the UMPIP plan.  The time to start preparing for retirement is as soon as you enter the work force so this seminar will be geared to all ages with a financial planning seminar for the younger clergy.  More information will be forthcoming but we want to make everyone aware of the dates.  


Missions Congratulations Given
This message was recently posted to the Celebrations area of the online Bulletin Board by a member of the Conference Board of Global Ministries:  Congratulations to Crossroads UMC in Grand Junction for their new Covenant with John Funk, serving in Bolivia.  Congratulations to small, but mighty Mosca UMC (Church membership of 22) for their new Covenant with Jim Campbell serving in Alaska!  Mosca UMC becomes the first current Covenant with a missionary in the Sunshine District. Congratulations to Estes Park UMC for renewing their Global Mission Partnership by supporting The Director of Youth  Vocational Institute in Sierra Leone.
